Mar Azul tomato

Mar Azul tomato produces 5-8 oz. (150-250 g) ribbed-shoulder, bluish-violet fruits with an intense, brilliant pink interior when perfectly ripe. The flesh is mildly crunchy with a smooth texture and low acidity. This variety has a unique flavor profile and is very popular among chefs, who recommend combining Mar Azul tomatoes with leafy vegetables like lettuce or spinach for a tasty and colorful salad or cook these tomatoes with garlic, shallots, basil, oregano and chili. Mar Azul tomatoes can be paired with savory herbs like chives, parsley and celery leaves or sweet herbs such as lemon balm, mint and fruity sages to enhance its fresh flavor. The tomato’s bluish color is due to a high concentration of anthocyanins, natural plant pigments that afford significant health benefits. The dark color level of these fruits depend on the level of sunlight, partial shading is not recommended.
